Dr. James Allred MD, MS, FAAD is a medical dermatologist in private practice in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He graduated summa cum laude in anthropology from the University of Colorado in 2003 and subsequently attended the University of Utah School of Medicine. He completed his dermatology residency in 2015 from the University of Texas at Austin where he served as chief resident. During that time, Dr. Allred’s research focused on medical device development which led to his inventing four devices that were successfully licensed to a biomedical company in 2016. He also has a strong interest in sports dermatology and has been the dermatologist for Western Kentucky University athletics. He has recently participated in multiple dermatology related startup companies ranging from new technology services, OTC emollient systems, and novel pharmaceutical deliveries.

 

Dr. Allred grew up trekking across the Rocky Mountains of Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, and Colorado with his father. He has mountaineered on many of the highest peaks in the western US and in the European Alps. Dr. Allred earned a certification in Advanced Wilderness Life Support in 2011. He is also a certified firefighter and regularly responds to calls for his volunteer department in Alvaton, Kentucky. Before medical school, he worked as a 6th grade teacher and earned a master’s in health education, and continues to enjoy finding new and engaging ways to teach patients and colleagues. Outside of work, Dr. Allred loves spending time with his growing family of five children in Kentucky.
